Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains many luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
